The people from Sharpie so kindly sent me their newest invention, the Sharpie Stained Fabric Marker and asked that I create something with it. I thought instead of drawing a picture of something specific, I would try to create a print using a stencil. Lace came to mind and when I did a test run with some leftover vintage lace from my ballet skirt DIY, I got a bit of a snakeskin print from it and was thrilled. I used the lace to create a repeating snakeskin grid across the entire tank. Here's how...





* White t-shirt
* A favorite tank top
* Lace
* Sharpie Stained Fabric Marker{they have no scent at all, unlike regular Sharpies and have a great long, paintbrush type tip.
* Scissors
* A paper bag or cardboard




 
* Slide a paper bag or large piece of cardboard in between your shirt {so your markings stay on one side only}. Lay your tank on top of your t-shirt and carefully draw around it.



* Flip it over and do the same on the back.



* Carefully follow your pattern on each side and cut out your tank top. Slide your cardboard back through your new tank.



* Lay your lace on top of your tank and hold it taught. Using the SIDE of your Sharpie Stained Fabric Marker with a light hand {unless you want your print dark} gently draw/paint/mark your print through the lace.



* It should look something like this. *Your print will depend on the shape of your lace.



* Move your lace pattern around your shirt, carefully lining it up with your last print to repeat the design. Some areas I made darker than others for a gradient effect.



* For a pop of color over the gray/black print I created, I used the yellow Stained Sharpie {which is neon in reality} free-hand dotting over and throughout my new snakeskin print.

Floral Headband / D.I.Y. Project

I know it's still August, but I am already gathering a fresh wardrobe for Fall! I want to make as many pieces as possible this season...because it's so much fun! These floral headbands were super simple to make. The best part was, it only took about fifteen minutes to make three headbands! Enjoy...

Here's how I made my headbands... Supplies Needed: Silk Flowers (I bought two stems per headband), a hot glue gun, plain headbands (found in the hair supply aisle). 1. Choose the perfect blooms for your headband. I chose some larger blooms because I wanted to make a statement piece. Pick smaller blooms if you like a softer look. 2. Pull all the flowers from their plastic stems and clip the green plastic piece off the back of each bloom so the back is flat. 3. Use hot glue to adhere the blooms to your headband. You can also use super glue (I prefer this kind). 4-5. Start in the center of the headband and work your way our, attaching more flowers. This makes it easier to create a balanced look! ♥

These headbands are fun and easy to wear. They add a splash of color to any outfit! If you love flowers as much as I do, I hope you enjoy making one. xo, elsie

D.I.Y. Lace Briefcase

Every workin' lady needs a fancy little briefcase covered in lace! At least that's what I think. I picked this boring brown briefcase up at a thrift shop recently and couldn't wait to dress it up! Here's how I did it...1. Supplies Needed: Vintage briefcase, wood glue (I like using heavy duty glue), lace trim or ribbon (the non-ruffled kind that lays flat works best) and scissors. 2-4. This project is easy and fairly self-explainatory through the photos above. Here are a few tips... Arrange your strips before glueing to make sure your proportions are pretty. Leave a little extra lace on each edge until you are done glueing and then trim last. Most importantly, use plenty of glue (especially on the edges). 5-6. I added lace to both sides of my briefcase. Check your glue bottle for drying time. Be sure to let the first side dry before flipping it over. Enjoy! ♥

Hearts & Bows

Hi there! I thought it might be fun to mix a little D.I.Y. love into my outfit post today...

I wanted to accessorize my new heart dress with a big sixties style bow! You wanna make one too?

Here's how I made mine... 1. Supplies needed- Needle, Thread, Scissors, Sash from a vintage dress (I prefer belts to matching sashes so I often use my sashes for other purposes like a hair scarf, or this!) 2. Tie your bow. See if you need to trim a few inches off your sash. 3. I needed to trim about 10 inches off. I cut it from the center of the scarf. This is a shortcut because you don't have to re-sew the edges of the sash. 4. Stitch the center of your sash back up. You can be a little messy because the knot will hide theses stitches. 5. Tie Bow. Make sure stitches are hidden. 6. Fluff your bow! It's done. This project only takes about 10 minutes. 

Use a safety pin to pin your bow to the neckline of your dress. This looks adorable with any dress that has a collar.

Song Lyric Wall Art / D.I.Y. Project

A couple weeks ago, I found a paint-by-number at an unbeatable price. I can't pass these things up even though I already owned this particular design. I thought that I could maybe use it to make a fun D.I.Y., but my new rule is that all thrifts that I purchase with the intent of restyling need to get done right away. I have way too many half finished projects in my life. With that little bit of motivation I came up with a fun D.I.Y. to display some of my favorite song lyrcis in our newlywed home. Enjoy....

Here's how I did it... Step 1. Find a paint by number or vintage painting that you like, but not one you adore (since you'll be painting over most of the design). A damaged piece works great, or a print you aren't too crazy about or ever a duplicate piece, like mine. Steps 2-3. Supplies needed: Artwork, Letter stickers (see 3 for the exact stickers I used. I purchased them at the art section of Michaels. You can also get them at hardware stores everywhere) White paint (in hindsight I would use spray paint, just a hint!), a paint brush and scissors. Step 4.Cut out and plot out your design. I know it's an extra step to cut out each letter, but it's much easier to create nice spacing this way! Step 5. Stick stickers. Place them as perfectly or imperfectly as you fancy! Steps 6-8. Cover the entire art piece with a coat (or two) of white paint. I wish I would have used spray paint because my letters bled a tiny bit. Spray paint is preferable. Step 9. Allow your paint to dry. I layed my piece on the front porch for an hour. Next, peel the letters off carefully.Step 10. Yay! You did it. Enjoy your new piece of art! ♥

I displayed our piece in our bedroom, on Jeremy's side of the bed. These song lyrics are by Camera Obscura, one of my favorite bands. You can hear the song in our wedding video here. How I Made My Own Garter // Wedding D.I.Y.

For my wedding I became a bit of a shopaholic. I ordered tons of pretty things from Etsy shops and boutiques. There was just one detail that stopped me in my tracks, the garter! I spent some time shopping for a cute and non-1980s-looking garter. After not having much luck finding something I wanted to wear I decided to make one. I made two variations (one to toss and one to keep). Both were super easy and cute! The one pictured above is simple decorative elastic with silk daisies stitched all the way around. 

Here's how I made my garter... 

Step 1: Find some pretty lace and trim that you fancy! measure around your leg (about halfway between your knee and hip) and cut a piece of lace that is 2 inches smaller than your leg.

Step 2: Use fabric glue to adhere a cute trim to the middle of your lace piece. I found a tiny daisy trim that I loved!

Step 3: Stitch the garter together with one inch of elastic in the middle. Fold the lace (see photo) to hide the elastic and edge from the back of  your garter. Last, stitch on a pretty bow if you please!

DIY: How I Made my own wedding bouquet!

When I started planning our wedding I knew right away that I wanted to make my own flowers. I love creative flower arrangements. I wanted something different. I also knew that if we chose not to hire a florist that we'd save thousands of dollars (hooray!) What I didn't know was how much FUN I would have with my bridesmaids making our bouquets. It was so so much fun and didn't take much time at all! 

If you're considering making your own bouquets, read on! I can tell you from my personal experience that this was one of the simplest DIYs that we tried (along with the DIY Boutonnieres and DIY Corsages too!) I'll share some tips with you.... 

I loved what each of the bridesmaids created! We had a bouquet making party after the rehearsal dinner. Each of the girls made their own bouquet. They each had special details like the bird charm hanging from Holly's bouquet and Katie's berry branches. I liked that they were all a little bit different.

Make Your Own Bouquet

Step 1: Collect Supplies. For my wedding bouquets I used fresh flowers, handmade velvet flowers, berry twigs, feather birds, feathers and vintage brooches. I also used some family heirloom ribbon (vintage tatting) and velvet ribbon that I found the first month we were dating! Choose accents that are personal to you!

Step 2: Start from the center and build the floral base of your bouquet. Work your way out by adding more and more flowers.

Step 3: Wrap the stems with floral tape. Use as much as you need to make it feel secure. The floral tape should go where ever you plan to wrap the ribbon. The ribbon will eventually hide it completely!

Step 4: Add accent piece such as feather birds (they have wires underneath that can secure them onto blooms) or feathers.

Step 5: Wrap the base of your stems (over the floral tape) with a pretty ribbon. I also tied some lace on mine as an accent.

Ta-Da! Here's a finished bouquet.

Modern Friendship Bracelets DIY // From Chelsea

Here's another great DIY tutorial that reminds me of middle school- I loved making little friendship bracelets with friends when I was younger so I was so excited when I saw that Chelsea had created a modern, more grown up version of these classic little accessories! How fun!

Hi all, it's Chelsea from Seablanket here to show you a fun, modern interpretation on Friendship Bracelets. These are all the rage for summer, and I've been seeing everyone from actress and singer Zooey Deschanel to style queen Garance Doré rocking stacks of friendship bracelets intermixed with other jewelry pieces. Grab some friends and create your own... here's how:

Things you’ll need: clasps, string, beads, scissors.

First, tie one end of your string to one end of the clasp. Work with about twelve inches of string, so you can have plenty of excess string to use in tying knots.

Next, add beads! There’s no “right” way to make a friendship bracelet, so have fun with it. Once you’ve added enough beads, tie on the other clasp and trim off the leftover string.
