* Needle nose pliers
* Jump ring
* Decide how long you want your pendant to hang, open a chain link to separate the chain then using the link, close your new chain.
* Open your jump ring.
* Slide your pendant through it.
* Slide your chain through it ...then pinch closed with pliers. Easy.

* Don't forget to leave a comment if you want to be entered to win my heart ;) ...you can do so as many times as you like. I will choose a winner and announce her here next weekend.
* Silk, sheer, or nylon fabric, anything with a pretty drape {I used a vintage slip that had a layer of nylon/satin and a layer of sheer mesh}
* Flat oval links ox silver chain {Also found at JoAnn's}
* Loose Faux pearls {mine were left over from the MJ Trim Challenge}
* Tarnished silver metal head pins
* Tarnished silver metal oval jump rings {comes w/3 sizes, I used the smallest}
* Tarnished silver metal lobster clsaps {or not. It's a long chain, you don't need a clasp}
* 3 different Beading pliers {5 pack, 8.99 - the exact ones I use, got mine from JoAnn's}
* Scissors
* Wire cutters
* NOTE: This is a little more intense than most of my diys but still not difficult
* Cut fabric strips. They don't have to be perfect, but they do need to have smooth edges. Since I didn't have a luxurious fabric like silk, I used sheer and opaque pieces together to add some texture & variation. I also used the sheer to create one long ribbon-like strip. You may choose whatever colors you like. There's a teal and navy one as well.
* Decide how long you want your chain. Using your pliers, pull apart a metal link to remove excess linkage. If the chain is long enough to fit over your head, you don't need a clasp. If you want a shorter chain, slip the loop of the clasp onto the open chain link & pinch it shut. You won't need the other part of the lobster clasp because you can use the actual chain.
* Weave your long ribbon-like piece through part of the chain and tie the ends in loose knots.
* String a pearl on a head pin * Bend the top w/round nose pliers
* Snip the end off with wire cutters * Close the wire with pliers creating a circle/loop.
* String pearl on head pin, weave opaque fabric onto pin and push it down
* ...add sheer layer on top. {to some but not all} You need to weave the fabric so it cinches up over the pearl instead of lying completely over it.
* Follow the steps above to finish {bend head pin, snip off excess, pinch into small loop/circle}
* Using a jump ring, add a single loose pearl to the top {circle/loop you just created} and pinch closed. Leave some as single pearls, some as one pearl with fabric, and some with fabric and two pearls.
* Using the jump rings, attach your pearls to your chain. Follow the design in this tutorial {of the Lanvin piece} or create your very own!
Overall cost of mine? ...under $20 ...I had the pearls & fabric though. Still would have probably been about $20. I had to buy the jewelry supplies {about $3.99 each, and not the tools} and only used a few of each.
* I made some earrings too

Materials:
* 2" Dupioni Silk Ribbon in Amour & Cameo - about 3 yards each {they have more colors to choose from}
* Loose faux pearls
* Gutermann Thread in Petal Pink & Eggshell ...Needle/Scissors {for all projects}
Steps:
1. With the silk ribbon, create two large flowers {by twisting/bunching/stitching together} in the darker shade & about 5 small flowers in the light beige
2-3. With the remaining darker silk ribbon, create a dishevelled accordion look by pinching and stitching loosely through it. Leave it looser on one side so you can move it around and tighter on the other ...creating two distinct looks. Lay in U shape
4. Place flowers on accordion base to liking
5. Hand-stitch flowers in place
6. With remaining light beige silk ribbon {about 44"} cut in half
7. Fold in half and over and stitch to ends of accordion base securely
8. On one side only, fold ribbon, run needle through it, place loose pearl then fold ribbon again and push through and repeat. I used 4 loose pearls. I did this to one side only. You can to both or neither if you like.

PRADA Spring 2010 Runway
While Prada's crystal shoes are a wee bit ridiculous and the chandelier dresses are positively unwearable unless you're a celebrity, the necklaces, on the other hand are quite ravishing. Here's how to make one on the cheap ...that looks nothing but.
I just so happened to have about three of these acrylic crystal chandelier strands which I purchased a couple years ago at JoAnn's fabric for about $10 each around Christmas time. I'm guessing they were meant to be used as garland on the Christmas tree but I used them for my wedding reception in 2006 and since, have used them to decorate curtain rods. While I haven't found this exact strand, below are links to a few others that will work just as well. And if you don't like any of them, keep your eyes open around holiday season.
* Also remember acrylic crystals may not be as sparkly but they are much MUCH lighter and easier to wear than glass ...also look for it on a chain/link system instead of wire or rope. Teardrops @ Decoratemywedding.com, Acrylic link crystals @ Decoratmywedding.com, Clear Octagon acrylic bead strands @ Shopwildthings.com, Marily crystal acrylic garland also @ shopwildthings.com, Various crystal garland strands @ save-on-crafts.com ...if anyone has a resource for acrylic crystal bead garland strands, please leave it in the comment section :)
...& with the extra crystals I made a quick pair of earrings to match
If you have a long chain ...or preferably, two long chains that you can hook to each other, then all you need to buy are the tassels {$3-4.99 each}...{or you can make your own out of leather!}
... but the craft chains are only {$3-4.99} each
